FAROUT Murals is an annual Mural festival that takes place in the small town of Walsenburg, Colorado. Participants in the festival are doing a great job contributing to the vision of a vibrant and thriving community that is succesfully tackling the challenges of being a small rural town in the modern world.

Timeline

April 1st - Call for artists announced, sponsorship positions open

April 15th - Call for artists closes, community judging begins

April 21st - Artists are announced, send out contracts

May 18th - Sponsorship applications close, preparation work begins, Event space prepared

21st - 24th - Memorial Day Weekend event

What We Provide

Artist Stipend of $800 for murals on Main Walls.

Artist Stipend of $400 for murals in Alleyway.

FAR OUT Staff will cover and install the base coat (buff).

Scaffolding and ladders will be provided and coordinated between the artists. Some paints and materials will also be available.

Lodging in Walsenburg will be available for all artists who need it Thursday night through Saturday night, checkout on Sunday morning. (Nights of May 21-23)

Some food will be provided and artists will be given discount cards for several local restaurants. *If you have allergies/food restrictions, please let us know in advance*

Any images of your art used for publicity and marketing by Far Out Murals will be properly attributed to you.

What You Provide

Each selected artist bears responsibility for the installation of his/her work.

All selected artists must provide any and all specific paints and materials necessary to complete their mural.

Artists must complete their mural by May 29th to receive payment.

Receipt of a W9 Taxpayer Identification Form is required prior to payment of honorarium.

Selection Process

When the call for artists is over, all submissions will be reviewed by a small panel of local judges. Submissions will be rated subjectively for content, quality, suitability, and relevance. Some weighted preference will go to women and minority artists, as well as to locals and to artists whose proposed artworks depict local themes.

The judge panel will consist of the following individuals, subject to change and last minute additions.

Eligibility

-This call for entry is open to any and all artists 18 and up, but local Southern Colorado and minority artists are preferred and will be prioritized.

-Art inspired from the local history, heritage, flora or fauna of Southern Colorado/Huerfano are also preferred but not required.

-Artists will need to provide a concept sketch/design, artists statement, social media link, and 2 past examples of your artwork.

-Some paint and supplies will be provided, but artists are responsible for bringing their own materials if they have a particular preference/requirement.

-Artists must consent to being photographed and on video for official FAROUT marketing.

Install Requirements ^*

-The artwork must be painted with outdoor grade paint, or sealed with a water resistant UV finish.

-The artwork should last at least 5 years.

-The artwork shall in no way impede normal functions and operations of the alley, or create a hazard to the public due to moving parts, sharp edges, or extension into public rights-of-way.

.-The art design shall not contain representation of traffic lights, traffic signs, or other designs that may be construed as official traffic control devices.

-The artwork shall not reflect copyright content, partisan politics, negative imagery, religions or

sexual content.

-Artworks shall not violate any federal, state or local laws.

Are you applying for the Main Wall or Alleyway Opportunity? (You may select both)

The Main Walls will be more visible from streets and sidewalks, come with a higher stipend, and are intended for more experienced muralists.

The Alleyway opportunity will have you working to continue beautifying our town's various alleyways with mural works. This opportunity comes with a lower stipend and is intended more for beginning/inexperienced artists.
