Get Involved with The Peekskill Plan as a Community Ambassador!

The City of Peekskill is seeking Expressions of Interest from active and well-connected community members to serve as informal Community Ambassadors during the development of the City's new Comprehensive Plan.

About the Peekskill Plan

The Peekskill Plan is a community-driven effort to create a new Comprehensive Plan that will guide the city’s future growth, investment, and development. Once completed and adopted, The Peekskill Plan will replace the City’s last Comprehensive Plan, which was adopted in 1981.

Together with residents, businesses, and local leaders, the plan will shape key priorities including land use, housing, transportation and traffic safety, economic development, and sustainability.

What are Community Ambassadors?

Community Ambassadors will act as trusted representatives from local organizations, neighborhood groups, faith-based institutions, schools, businesses, and other civic and social networks across Peekskill. Ambassadors serve as liaisons between the planning process and the communities they represent. They will be responsible for sharing information about the planning process, promoting events and engagement opportunities, and gathering input and feedback from their respective communities.

The goal is to extend the reach of this initiative beyond workshops and open houses, particularly to individuals and groups who may be less likely to participate in traditional public engagement. By meeting people where they are and working through established relationships and trusted voices, Community Ambassadors support a more inclusive, equitable, and representative planning process.

Participation is flexible and informal, allowing Ambassadors to engage at key moments throughout the initiative while helping to ensure that a broad cross-section of the Peekskill community is informed, involved, and heard.

Expressions of Interest will be accepted on a rolling basis

We will continue to seek out Community Ambassadors throughout the planning process as a way to reach more of the Peekskill community. We welcome your interest and look forward to collaborating with you on creative approaches to engaging your community more meaningfully!

What organizations, groups, clubs, associations, or distinct communities in Peekskill are you currently involved with? ^*

This may include, but is not limited to, schools, faith-based institutions, cultural institutions, professional associations, non-profit organizations, civic groups, etc.

Some examples might include: the Ecuadorian community, local congregations, Peekskill Downtown Business Improvement District (BID), Peekskill Community Collaborative, Peekskill Arts Alliance, Hudson Valley MOCA, etc.

Community Ambassadors will be provided with an introductory toolkit and updated materials and resources throughout the planning process to support their outreach and engagement efforts.

Organize/host kitchen table conversations

Share information about The Peekskill Plan and upcoming events with your network via email, social media, newsletters, etc.

Gather input from your community via surveys, worksheets, and other means

Distribute The Peekskill Plan event flyers, newsletters, and other informational materials

Host a pop-up table or station at external events to share information about The Peekskill Plan and/or gather input from the community

Invite representatives of the planning team to your event to tell your community more about The Peekskill Plan
