The Basic Info

WE HOLD x4 MARKETS A YEAR

these take place at:
Folk Suffolk aka Folk Cafe
Located just outside of Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

Folk has it's own pretty cult-like following and loyal customer base. It's a destination venue, a bit out on a limb geographically but that means the people paying a visit are doing so with intent to spend, and enjoy.

We don't put these markets on to turn a big profit for ourselves, it's about having a nice event for likeminded people to celebrate LOVELY stuff available in our region.

What does work well at our markets..

We look for traders with a link to our region in some form, who have special, different, useful, indulgent, tasty, beautiful products. This might include:

- small batch made kitchen provisions (jams, chili oil, chutneys etc)
- jewellery (fine and fun!)
- ceramics
- illustrated art prints, stickers, journals etc.
- plants and flowers
- beautiful homewares
- vintage pieces and clothing
- handmade clothing (mens, womens and kids)
- food trucks serving tassssty food
- booze to take away
- handmade decorative pieces
- cool, unique accessories
- bags, textiles and textile homewares
- small pieces of special furniture
- treats and accessories for dogs
- interactive products (charm bars, pet portraits and similar)
- hot and cold food that doesn't tread on Folk's toes (see next slide!)

Ideally, we like our traders to have an eco-conscious approach to their market selling with minimal plastic packaging.

We like traders who interact with us, their stall neighbours and customers in a friendly way that aligns with our values.

and doesn't work well at our markets...

We don't allow mass-produced/made in China/AI created products at our markets. We also don't like to have any brand that is part of an MLM business, or any business selling a service rather than physical products.

Sadly, we cannot accept traders selling drinks (coffees, hot chocolate etc), cakes or bakes (like sausage rolls) due to stipulations by our venue, Folk.

We have also found over the years that the following don't do well at our events:

- wax melts
- 3D printed materials
- any items that are mass-produced and re-packaged/branded
- original artworks priced £150+
- knitted/crochet/macrame items
- country-themed items (products with hares, highland cows, pheasants etc.)
- resin jewellery and accessories
- drink/homewares with print, cut and stick designs
- fresh produce like fruit and veg

We don't want to be rude, but don't want to waste your time either or risk you having an unsuccessful market with us so would rather explain this now. Hope you can understand :)

FAQ

HOW MUCH IS A PITCH
It depends on a few things, but 90% of our pitches are priced at £45 booking fee. Our hot Food vendors are charged £65 + an additional charge of £20 for the use of Folk's electricity.

WHAT'S FOOTFALL LIKE
Typically, we have between 600-1200 visitors at our markets.

HOW MANY TRADERS WILL THERE BE?
We can fit between 30-35 traders at our markets - around half inside, half outside

WILL THERE BE ANOTHER TRADER SELLING PRODUCTS LIKE MINE?
Nope, not really. We carefully curate each event to ensure there is little to no cross-over.
Occasionally there might be for example two jewellers - but we'll ensure there is enough of a difference in your products to make the day profitable for each trader.

MARKET TIMES?
Our markets are open to the public between 10am-3pm.
Traders set up at pre-arranged staggered intervals from around 7:30am.

VENUE DETAILS?
Folk has two big, free car parks. It is an accessible venue. It is a dog friendly venue.

MARKET VIBE?
Happy, smiley, creative and chill. No bad vibes, please!

IT'S MY FIRST GO AT A MARKET - WILL I BE WELCOME?
Yes! We regularly have new traders join us! We're happy to hand-hold you if you need it, give you advice and our traders and community are lovely and welcoming.
They can be busy markets though so it's worth ensuring you have enough stock and an already established brand before joining us.

can I just ask...

DO I NEED INSURANCE?
Yes, all traders require Public Liability Insurance to trade at public events. If you don't have proof of valid insurance being in place for the event date, we may have to cancel your booking.

CAN I BRING A HELPER?
Yes, but only one, please. We have limited room for more than two people behind each stall, and it can unfairly cramp your stall-neighbour if you have more than one helper. It can also look unwelcoming to shoppers.

CAN I BRING MY DOG?
Yes! Please feel free to bring your dog if they are well behaved and used to being in crowded market spaces. Just let us know and we'll ensure you have room for them at your pitch.

DO I NEED A TO BE ABLE TO TAKE CARD/CONTACTLESS PAYMENTS?
Yes! Folk is a cashless venue Mon-Sat, so people are used to paying by card only there. It's up to you if you also wish to take cash, but you will need the ability to take mobile/card payments to trade with us.
